Historic Conservation
This period table base from the early 1800's was originally constructed with integral handcut dovetails. A later repair attempt with large dowels eventually failed which sent the piece into our hands for correct treatment.
The integrity of the wood column was restored by rebuilding the key ways to the proper size. Replacement dovetail keys were cut to the correct angles and finely fit by hand.
The two replacement dovetail keys are the lower two of the four in this picture of the underside.
